Q1: What? Is a stock bubble?

A bubble is used to describe a stock that is trading at a price above its fundamental value.

PLACE OF RESEARCH: FACULTY OF COMMERCE, UNIVERSITY OF CAPE TOWN.

 OBJECTIVE

The purpose of my dissertation is to investigate the technology stock bubble in the NASDAQ stock market and to analyze the possibility of rational bubbles in the technology stock.

 THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS WILL BE ADDRESSED IN MY PROJECT

1. What were the reasons behind the initial surge in the technology stock prices?

2. What were the reasons behind the continued high stock prices?

3. Why the stock prices eventually fell?

4. What initiates bubbles?

5. What causes the bubble to burst?

CONTRIBUTIONS

I have chosen to research this topic in order to present a thorough investigation of the rise and sudden fall of the technology stocks of the same companies over a particular period of time.

Results from this study will include the following:

• Examination and highlighting of the causes for the rise and sudden fall of the technology industry.

• Investigation of ? Bubbles?? in the technology industry and how it happened so quickly.
